Rezko's Quincy Connections

If only I had more time...

Wouldn't it be fun to do some digging and take a deeper look into Tony Rezko's ties to Quincy politicos?

Not only has he been indicted for all kinds of fun stuff, but with his ties and shady deals with Blago and Obama, along with Hillary bringing his connections to O to the national spotlight only to be trumped by a recently found photo of him with Bill and Hillary ... Well what I'm getting at is this - Rezmar did own Quincy's Newcomb Hotel for quite some time.

- How did the deal come about?
- Did we give Rezko and Co. loans or grants?
- What other connections were there?

I think it would be worth looking in to, that's all.

Gotta Agree With The Desk.

Part of the perpetual problem with Quincy city government is the desire to be an insider. And part of being part of the "club" is keeping little secrets from those paying the bills (that's you and me). Personally, I don't give a damn about whatever little scandal has been taking place, but it might actually do everyone involved some justice to have the facts told.

The best way to end gossip and the ongoing guessing game would simply be to press release the straight facts. Until the folks claiming to be in control here learn to be more forthcoming with those footing the bill, the situation will only continue to get more and more vile. In fact, if it was done right at the very beginning, there wouldn't be much controversy at all, would there? We're starting to look more and more like Hannibal around here every day!

Let's do some damage control before it's too late.

Contrats In Advance...

... to the new members of the City of Quincy family. Well done Mayor Spring and crew on the much needed house cleaning. Now the question is, which last names will double, triple, quadruple or worse on the city's payroll roster?

Yes, this is the perfect opportunity for a little of the good old fashioned nepotism that Quincy's just so famous for. On the other hand, it'd also be a perfect opportunity to show some professionalism and spark an era of change. Will the newly created job openings be open to all qualified citizens of Quincy or just the usual suspects?

We'll just have to wait and see...

**News Flash**

Quincy Police patrol the areas of the city with higher incidents of crime more frequently. Big surprise.

Maybe the QPD should target all of their resources in districts 1 and 5. Afterall, the ISP seems to have the rest of town covered...

Wasted.

More money wasted.
Chief of Police, Police Aldermanic Committee and Director of Purchasing recommending approval of the purchase of a Ford F-250 from Landmark Ford, Springfield, IL in the amount of $16,920 and the purchase of an ATL-6 conversion bed from Mavron, Inc., Warsaw, IN in the amount of $14,860 for a total cost of $31,780.
Animal Control Patrol. What was wrong with the smaller and more efficient Ford-150's? Probably about half of the overall cost of these new monstrosities, more efficient to operate, and served their purpose just fine for many years. And they still would, but apparently the cash is just burning a hole in their pockets. Animal violence in Quincy must be on the rise mandating the use of these special-ops tactical vehicles.

Let's see some stats and some reasoning. Otherwise, here's a thought -- Let's cut the QPD budget.

And how about the $1.5 million bid free dollars we're going to end up spending on a new HVAC system for city hall?

Granted, the technology is a little different but to give you perspective on how much money we're blindly spending, the 1.9 million square foot Met Life tower in NYC has just spent around $3 Million to replace their system.

And how big is Quincy city hall?

Well it's not 950,000 square feet. I think it's actually around 58,000 square feet (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Their new system's cost per square foot: $1.58. Ours: $25.86

Scapegoat...

...I doubt it.

Stumbled upon this rather interesting take on recent local history the other day and felt obliged to pass it on.

Doesn't this account seem fairly one sided? Also, I can easily point out numerous blatant errors in both the facts and the details.

And all this from someone who teaches journalism?

Wasted Money.

How many of the 14.7 square miles patrolled by the Quincy Police Department consists of gravel or other off road conditions?

Is the price of gas rising?

Is a 6 cylinder Chevy Impala or a Large Ford Expedition more efficient to operate?

Which vehicle is more expensive to purchase?

How does the city justify the new Quincy Police Department Ford Expedition "cruisers?"

The Smoking Police

Maybe the Adams County Health Department could hire all of the area bartenders, waitresses, and waiters that will be put out of work resulting from the new statewide smoking ban.

It's a win-win situation. The unemployed will get work and the department will be able to staff their now necessary smoking police division. Should be able to generate plenty of revenue from the fines. After all, the enforcing agency gets to keep half.

On a serious note, here's a link to the imposing and restrictive Smoke Free Illinois Act. Please give it a read for your own good. When will enough be enough?
